Halloween at Walt Disney World

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Fall at Disney World officially kicks off in August when the Magic Kingdom is transformed overnight into a fall wonderland complete with colorful wreaths and pumpkins everywhere. One of the best things about fall is Halloween. This is a favorite holiday for a lot of people for all different kinds of reasons. Some people like to dress up, others love having a reason to indulge in all the candy their stomachs can hold.

Disney celebrates Halloween the only way you can, by throwing a party. Mickey hosts his annual party on select days from August to November. During that time everyone's favorite Disney characters come out to enjoy Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Festivities usually kick off around 7:00 pm but party guests are allowed into the Magic Kingdom starting at 4:00 pm.

When visiting the Magic Kingdom during this time, you will be able to experience all the fall decorations and select merchandise and treats. However, to take full advantage of all the festivities you have to buy a special events tickets that will allow you to have full access. Tickets to the Halloween Party usually range between $90 to $120 depending on the day you visit.

Although it is not mandatory, guests of all ages are welcomed to dress up in costumes to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Usually, Disney only allows kids under the age of twelve to dress up at the parks. But for this special event rules are set into place to ensure everyone can dress up in their favorite costume to take pictures with all the characters.

Speaking of characters, you’ll be able to take pictures with Mickey and his friends in their Halloween costumes. A lot of the other characters such as Disney princes and princesses will be in the favorite fall outfits as well. But the fun doesn’t stop there. In true Halloween fashion, some of Disney Villains will be out and available for pictures as well.

Halloween at Disney also come with special shows and attractions. For this special event, Happily Ever After is replaced with Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Firework Spectacular. Disney also showcases the Boo-to-You Parade. Led off by the headless horseman, the parade features not-so-spooky characters and dancers. Disney characters aren’t the only ones getting into the Holiday spirit. All around the Magic Kingdom Cast Members will be themed for this special event. You won’t want to miss the special performances by the Cadaver Dans Barbershop Quartet.

Disney also transforms some of their most iconic rides to have a spooky flare during this time. Rides such as Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, The Mad Tea Cups, and Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor get unique Halloween decorations and spooky soundtracks. During the party, guests will be able to ride all their favorite attractions with limited lines. Because this is a special event, only a limited number of people are allowed to attend on any given date. This benefits all guests because crowds will be smaller and you’ll have a better opportunity to see all Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has to offer.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without candy. Guests will be able to trick-or-treat all throughout the Magic Kingdom at stops at some of the parks’ most iconic locations. At the beginning of the night Halloween Party guests will be ushered through a special entrance were Cast Members hand out special trick-or-treat bag and guests get their first hand fulls of candy. Yes, you read that right. At every location Cast Members hand out handfuls of candy to EVERYONE. Last year, I came home with enough candy to last me the next six months.

Candy isn’t the only treat available within the park. Disney rolls out special Halloween themed caramel apples, Rice Krispy treats, and all of your other favorite Disney treats. These treats are not exclusive to the party so you will be able to indulge in all these Halloween themed treats at both the Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs from August through November.

Last but certainly not least, Disney rolls out a whole new line of Halloween merchandise. There will be some Party Exclusive items that are only available during the event, but most of it will be sold to everyone. Disney releases shirts, jersey shirts, Mickey ears, and so much more to commemorate this event. You will be able to purchase all of this either in the park, at Disney Spring, or online. All of this merchandise is limited release, which means it is only available for a limited time. I suggest if you really want something to pick it up quick.

Although this is a special event that requires an additional ticket for entry, I highly recommend going at least once. This event is so special for more than just the reasons I listed above. Before last year, I was a strictly summer guest because of the longer park hours and beautiful weather but now after experiencing all falls at Disney has to offer I can honestly say I will be a repeat guest at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
